Guillermo Roa
Guillermo Roa earned a PhD in Chemistry from the University of the Basque Country, Spain (UPV/EHU) in 1999. He made his research in Theoretical chemistry applied to organic reactions. Since then, he has been working on scientific dissemination in basque language at the Elhuyar Foundation.
His work has been made in several formats, including printed media texts, radio and television. His main activity is related to the radio, where he’s been in charge of the science radio program Norteko Ferrokarrilla in Euskadi Irratia (EITB), the public radio station in the Basque Country. In the last 4 years, he’s been the director and speaker in a second radio program called Ekosfera, about nature and environment. And last, since 2017, he’s been teaching 3D modelling and animation in the Scientific Illustration master of UPV/EHU university.
Elhuyar is a foundation with the aim of disseminating science in basque language, as well as, normalising the basque language in different areas, such as specialised terminology and others. They also have an AI group that is developing tools for the NLP in basque language, such as automatic translators, speech synthesisers and so on. The Science Unit of Elhuyar uses every format for the dissemination, both traditional and modern formats, and has alliances with the research centres from the Basque Country and the main media.
