The Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU) is an independent and non-profit organisation without any political affiliation.

The Society was created to promote communication within the community of Spanish Researchers working in the United Kingdom by establishing a social network that facilitates the sharing of professional and life experiences. This Society also aims to help close the gap between researchers and the general public from British and Spanish societies. Lastly, SRUK/CERU as a community of scientific advisors that facilitate collaborations between private and public British and Spanish R&D institutions.

There are different SRUK/CERU memberships that you can choose from depending on your current situation.

If you navigate to our personal website, you can find all the information you need about the three types of SRUK/CERU memberships we offer: SRUK/CERU Regular Memberships and SRUK/CERU Associate Memberships.

If you do not meet the requirements to become an SRUK/CERU member, you can always become an SRUK/CERU Friend!

This year we have flat rates for all attendees, and children up to 11 go free! Nevertheless, please note that dinner on Saturday July 5th is not included. Registration fee is as follows:

Depending on the ticket that you choose to buy, registration fees may cover attending the Opening Ceremony on Friday 4th of July 2025, all the events during one of the days at the Symposium (5th or 6th of July 2025), or attending the three days the Symposium shall take place for and the workshops (4th, 5th, and 6th of July 2025).

Yes! Nevertheless, this year things will be a bit different: we do not have a set menu. Instead, we have booked a room in Brew York on Saturday evening (5th of July 2025) and decided to host an informal event where each person will order (when/if they want) their food/drinks individually. In addition, you do not need to order anything, you can just join us to socialise!

Yes, a number of microgrants (first come, first served) are available to cover part of the travel expenses of SRUK/CERU members presenting their work at the Symposium.

The Symposium will be held in York, at the Department of Biology of the University of York (Wentworth Way, Heslington, York, YO10 5DD).

The Opening Ceremony on Friday the 4th of July will be held at Merchant Taylors Hall.

You can always arrange your accommodation on your own! Nevertheless, in case it is easier for you, we have already pre-booked a limited number of rooms at a special rate in James College!

Please note that rooms will be booked on a “first come, first served” basis, and we expect them to sell out — book as soon as possible so that you do not miss your chance to book one of these rooms!

All our venues are fully accessible. However, during registration, you will be asked if we need to make any extra arrangements to guarantee your attendance and participation in our Symposium.

Yes, professional childcare will be offered on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, please note that our Symposium welcomes anyone interested in joining our events regardless if they are a member or not! You can find more details about the childcare services we have arranged on the “Family-friendly event” section.

Please note that each individual that needs to buy a ticket to attend our Symposium needs to be registered (i.e., one form per person) — children up to 11 go free, and so you will not need to register them.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult during the events.

When abstracts are submitted via our online form, participants shall see a message on the same page confirming that the abstract has been received. Please note that only SRUK/CER Members can submit an abstract to present their work.

Once the organising committee has chosen the abstracts for presentations, we shall contact applicants to inform them about the outcome. More details can be found on the abstract submission online form.

Deadline for abstract submission: 16th of June 2025.

We hope to announce the selected abstracts by the 20th of June 2025.

We shall send online certificates of attendance immediately after the Symposium should you require one.
