Facing Challenges

XII International Symposium SRUK/CERU

This year, our Symposium will center on the theme “Facing Challenges”, exploring both the most pressing global research challenges (e.g., climate change, artificial intelligence, and issues related to human health) and the personal barriers researchers encounter in their careers, such as those related to wellbeing, EDI issues, and caring responsibilities. These difficulties include fighting inequities, maintaining work-life balance, and managing setbacks, amongst many others; all of them shall be addressed during the workshops and roundtable discussions we are organising!

By identifying and addressing these challenges, we aim to drive innovation, bridge knowledge gaps, and ensure a strong focus on creating impactful solutions for both researchers’ lives and critical global issues.

The Symposium will take place in the historic city of York, a setting that has thrived through centuries of change. With a rich legacy of resilience, from its Viking and medieval roots to its modern-day innovation, York offers an inspiring backdrop for meaningful discussions about overcoming obstacles and embracing opportunities for growth.

We have designed the programme with the aim to cover the main research topics within the theme of our Symposium, while also bringing renowned speakers to discuss the challenges aforementioned. In addition, SRUK/CERU Members will have the opportunity to present their own research!

On the morning of July 4th, participants will have the chance to join an Open Forum on climate change organised by CONNECTS-UK, led by The Dutch Network of Academics in the UK and with the collaboration of the SRUK/CERU Environment committee. In addition, everyone will have the opportunity to join the multiple workshops and roundtables that we have organised as part of this three-day conference, while also enjoying social activities, including a concert on Saturday evening!

The International Symposium SRUK/CERU offers numerous chances to connect with other researchers across the UK. Whether you are an SRUK/CERU member or not, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn and engage with others in the research community and discover common challenges in our day to day. Join us as we embark on a journey of resilience and overcoming adversity.

Mark your calendars and prepare to be inspired for our SRUKCERU2025 “Facing challenges” Symposium in York!

About SRUK/CERU

SRUK/CERU was created in July 2011 (officially established in June 2012) to promote communication within the community of Spanish Researchers working in the United Kingdom by creating a social network that facilitates the sharing of professional and life experiences. The association has encouraged this communication via the establishment of Constituencies throughout the UK and Departments and Committees supporting our activity.

During all these years of intense and pioneering work, SRUK/CERU has consolidated as a society that brings together Spanish researchers in the UK to give them a united voice that impacts society, influences science policy and closes the gap between researchers in the UK and Spain.
